Thy Will Be Done On Earth

... As It Is In Heaven

Continuing his series of short devotionals on the Lord’s Prayer, Pastor Peter Linnecar, shares what “Thy will be done” means in our lives.

The Garden of GethsemaneIn the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ prayed, “Not my will but thine be done.” His whole life was about fulfilling what God the Father wanted for Him.

So when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” they could identify with the fact that here was someone, right in front of them, who was fulfilling God’s will for His life.

That’s the same for you and for me. What’s important is not what we want in life, but what God wants. He is our loving heavenly Father – “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” God has angels to do His bidding, and He can fulfil anything. Yet His purposes are best served by you and me, having Him as the priority.

Thy will be done.
