Practical Mission Work - Billingham

The first of many missions for the LOGOS group!

The Logos group is a team of young people from Trinity Church who meet for Bible studies and discussions, and also for practical volunteering projects.

Earlier this year fifteen members of the Logos group went to help with a project in Billingham being run by Peter and Sarah Hoskin.   Peter and Sarah attended Trinity Church for many years, and about 12 months ago had really felt God calling them to Billingham. So they moved in the summer of 2008 and have since got involved with the youth in the local area.

Peter and Sarah were given a room at the local community centre which is linked to and run by a local church. The centre is open on a Friday evening and they invite the local youth to come and spend time there.  As the weeks were progressing, more and more kids were turning up. Peter and Sarah were very excited about this and wanted begin to introduce the Gospel to these children.

The room was very tired and worn out and they were aware that the room needed bringing into the 21st century! So they got in touch with old friends at Trinity Church and a group of willing young adults was quickly found. And off the members of the Logos group went to give the youth club a make-over!

We turned up early one Saturday morning and worked solidly till 10pm, on both Saturday and Sunday.  It was a fantastic time, for many reasons: to be part of such a well organised project; meeting, having fellowship with and striking up new friendships with other Christians in another part of the country; being blessed by others as you bless them; and most importantly, being part of God's work. We find that it's such a fulfilling way of spending time!

Everyone who went gained so much from this experience and we would encourage everyone to find out what God wants YOU to be involved with. Then just GET ON AND DO IT!

See you on the next practical mission trip!
