It is Done - Easter Conference Report

It is finished, his head dropped and the last breath of mortality was drawn. Jesus the Saviour, King of the Jews, Mankind redeemer. Yeshua, the seed of David, the son of God. Dead! Yes he once raised the dead. But now his last breath is gone. His mortal spirit departed on the cross. His dying words; IT IS DONE!

Colin Clemison puts it this way, “God’s people came together, expressing God’s love in music and worship. Jesus was born to die and the way he came, oh! What a wonder. That is immense”

Death often brings grief to the loved ones of the departed. Pain, agony and the dark hordes of sorrow fills their souls. However tonight, grief gives way to Joy, pain to gain and agony to triumph as we in an unprecedented fashion celebrated these last words from our maker; IT IS DONE! IT IS FINISHED. You may wonder what kind of people are these with one voice, with shouting and singing, in oneness of body and soul, celebrating the death of their deliverer.

Peter Linnecar summarizes the night this way “It was very uplifting, focusing on the power of the cross. Very moving, very emotional, the revelation of the cross hit home!

Wao! The cross, his death, our gain. We celebrate because his last breathe on the cross was the key to a new life for us. Like Peter said, our coming together tonight celebrates the power of the cross. Jesus died that we may live. What a joy it gives us and tonight that joy filled the whole room as we in one accord lifted up our voice to heaven to declare the victory of his death and the triumph of his resurrection. We were moved to tears as the choir sang. One of the songs says “This is what it feels to be free”. We had to sing it twice. Free people we are. Freed from the shackles of sin. Delivered from the pain of oppression, because if the son sets us free, we are free in deed. His death, the key to our freedom.

It was a night of songs and each song was introduced by people whose testimonies were personally connected to the theme of the song. The testimonies were very personal, inspiring, motivating and exemplary.

Faith Patel shared a deeply moving testimony demonstrating the power of God in her life before the next song. We rose and applauded her testimony. Yeshua’s hands had been visible in her life. His love demonstrated through his death for this mere mortal was astounding, beyond words, it beggars belief!  The psalmist says “what are human beings that you think of them; mere mortals that you care for them?”

Faith Patel goes on to say “It is lovely to be able to come and sing about our God. Wonderful that everything said and done came in one direction. The main theme was Jesus and what God did through him. It showed how important and fundamental to our lives; his life, his death, his glorification. Regardless of where we are at, whom we are and where we are coming from. He was the thread through all of us”

Tonight we sang and rejoiced because  Jesus; God in the image on man, man in the image of God, the divine judge who punishes our sins and the human substitute who takes away our sins came down to earth, died that we may live and be in him like him.

Funmi Adeniran had this to say “Tonight was more than preaching. Very emotionally engaging. It helped us to reflect on the things God did in our lives. Jesus came and died the way he did, paid the price that we may live a fulfilling life. The songs were special, encouraging and inspiring. Jesus paid it all!

John15:13 put it this way “The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends”

In his death we rise, no longer slain by the cruel hands of sin. On the cross we breathe, a fresh breathe of life. For he came, he that was crowned with many crowns. The angel of God whose finger wrote the Ten Commandments. The God-man, on the throne over the cherubim’s. The commander of the armies of Jehovah! The first, The last, the beginning, the end. Jesus is his name. He died, today we live and will forever live in him. Amen!
